Victoria Collins MP: Labour must ‘end this Westminster soap opera’ as Prime Minister resigns
22 June 2026
Following the resignation of Keir Starmer today (Monday 22 June) as Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour party, the Liberal Democrat MP Harpenden and Berkhamsted, Victoria Collins, has called for a fundamental shift in British politics.
Victoria Collins has called for an end to the “soap opera” in Number 10, as the UK faces its 7th Prime Minister in just 10 years.
The Liberal Democrats are urging Keir Starmer’s successor to create real change for local people in Harpenden, Berkhamsted, Tring and our communities in the cost of living and the NHS.
Responding to Keir Starmer’s resignation, Liberal Democrat Victoria Collins MP said:
“Constituents and local businesses are simply fed up with the revolving door of Prime Ministers while the big challenges facing our country are left unresolved. It’s time to end this Westminster soap opera and get on with delivering positive change for people in our community.
“This can't just be about a new face in Number 10. We need real change, tackling the cost of living, helping local businesses grow, fixing the NHS and social care, and giving communities a stronger voice over the decisions that affect them like planning.
“Over the next six months, the government must make sure this leadership challenge doesn't get in the way of governing. We need bold action to grow the economy, strengthen public services and restore trust in politics.
“Whoever becomes Prime Minister must show the drive and ambition our country deserves.”
