MP opens Berkhamsted Community Garden for 2025

20 May 2025
Victoria Collins, MP for Harpenden and Berkhamsted, has officially opened Open Door’s Community Garden for 2025!
This garden is a much loved space amongst the Berkhamsted community, and a product of the hard work of Open Door’s volunteer gardening team. It is a fantastic community space open to all, boasting impressive flowers, vegetable patches, and habitats for wildlife.
On Saturday 10 May, Victoria formally opened the garden for 2025 at an event to celebrate the work of the brilliant volunteers who made this happen, creating a welcoming and community-focussed space.
To celebrate the occasion there were cream teas, live music and a whole range of activities for families to take part in.
This garden is now open for anyone to visit, from 10:30-15:30 on Monday to Friday and 10:30-13:00 on Saturday. You can also join their gardening team as a volunteer. Find out how to sign up here: https://www.opendoorberkhamsted.co.uk/volunteer.html
Furthermore, Open Door provide a whole range of further events, activities and spaces for use by the local community. This includes their cafe, local art exhibitions, wellbeing classes and support services like their Community Pantry (offering 24/7 access to daily essentials). Victoria Collins, MP for Harpenden & Berkhamsted, said:
“It was an absolute privilege to join Open Door to officially open their community garden for this year.
“The garden is a widely admired and treasured space amongst the Berkhamsted community and beyond, and a fantastic example of local volunteers coming together to create an inclusive space that’s also good for our planet and biodiversity.
“More broadly Open Door also provide some incredible services for our local community, whether by ensuring everyone can access food and essentials they need, providing support for those with dementia and Alzheimer’s through their Memory Cafe, or running creative activities for everyone to get involved in.
“And now that the garden is officially open, I’d encourage all local residents to visit them and enjoy this wonderful community space.”
