A new chapter for a much-loved Wheathampstead pub

Victoria Collins MP has visited the newly reopened Elephant & Castle in Wheathampstead to meet the team behind its remarkable £200,000 investment transformation and celebrate the return of a much-loved village pub.
The pub is the latest addition to Chase Inns, founded by Paul Marsh, who has more than 30 years' experience in the hospitality industry. Despite requiring extensive refurbishment, Paul and his team transformed the historic building in just six weeks. Today, the Elephant & Castle is once again thriving, with customers enjoying its welcoming atmosphere, impressive beer garden and wide selection of beers.
During her visit, Victoria met Paul and his team to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing independent hospitality businesses. Paul spoke about the realities of growing a business, from rising operating costs and dealing with utility companies to recruiting and training staff. He also highlighted Chase Inns' commitment to giving young people opportunities to develop valuable skills and build careers in hospitality.
Victoria Collins MP discussed the Liberal Democrats' proposal to cut VAT for the hospitality sector to 5%, helping pubs, restaurants and cafés invest, create jobs and financially strengthen small businesses in the area.
